Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It literally means to break the fast of the night. The first meal of the day usually taken between 7 am to 10 am. Improving this meal will also set you apart from competing hotels and can ensure returning guests. Learn about the kinds of breakfasts that can bring you repeat guests!

A hotel should serve at least 2 or 3 types of different breakfasts out of the 4 mentioned below:

English Breakfast

This is the heaviest breakfast of all. It offers a wide selection from fruit juices, stewed fruits, breakfast cereals, eggs, fish, meat, breads and hot or cold beverages. The English Breakfast is for the high-end leisure traveller.

Indian Breakfast

The most sought-after breakfast because we Indians cannot start our day without aloo paranthas or masala dosas!

Being the land of varied culture, language and also varied eating habits — the breakfast can be divided into two parts: North Indian (parathas, stuffed parathas, poori masala, etc.) and South Indian (idli, vada, uttapam, upma, poha, dosas, etc.). The Indian Breakfast is for the domestic guest that is likely to return on another business trip soon!

Continental Breakfast

Also termed as 'Simple Breakfast' — generally includes breakfast rolls (danish pastries, donuts, croissants) with butter and preserves and hot or cold beverage. This is the typical breakfast of a business traveller or FIT.

American Breakfast

Last but not the least, the American breakfast is neither too heavy nor too light. Consisting of usually pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausages, toast and baked beans with juices. Coffee being the most preferred beverage. Best suited for all the American travellers — it's a leisure meal and ensuring it is perfectly cooked should bring you many repeat guests.

Always Remember

  • Offer breakfast at an affordable price, if not already included in the room rent
  • Never be miserly about breakfast portions
  • Always offer one or two kinds of fresh juices
  • Make sure that your leisure guests can get breakfast between 10 am and noon as well
